ABOUT
Heather Christine Brown (b. 1985, Kansas City, Missouri) is an award-winning American artist and filmmaker based in Kazuno, Akita, Japan. She holds a BFA in Film, Video and Photography from the Kansas City Art Institute and worked for more than 15 years as a professional camera operator and member of the International Cinematographers Guild in Los Angeles - contributing to a wide range of commercial, television, film, and music video productions.
Her artistic practice explores how people connect, communicate, and understand one another, and how personal and familial histories shape identity. Her work combines documentary observation, experimental filmmaking, analogue processes, and archival materials. Her films and installations have been presented at L’Alternativa Barcelona Independent Film Festival, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Oklahoma Museum of Art, and Anthology Film Archives, among others. She is a Princess Grace Foundation Award recipient and the creative director and co-producer of Pseudoacacia.
